Agony and Ecstasy of Costco
Posted by Kym under General
I just got back from Costco. Damage: $431.29. One thing I can always be grateful for at Costco. There is always blogging fodder that comes from my trip. Costco is a mixed bag for me. My emotions flood the whole spectrum… from disgust, disappointment, to sadness, to elation, to triumph.
I have a friend who goes to Costco regularly. She makes it sound so simple. Like she pops in and pops out. No ordeal for her. I don’t think she spends hundreds of dollars at a pop either. She’s also really skinny and maybe that has something to do with it. Skinny girls get in and out of Costco faster. It’s a plot. Must be a plot because when I go to Costco it’s at least a 2-hour ordeal. And I’m not skinny. So there you go. (Can I digress or what? ) Just finding parking is a nightmare.
Well… today I got an excellent parking space. That always starts the trip off well. This would be the ecstasy part in case you were wondering. However, then I remembered that excellent parking spaces are only excellent until you are packing up all your stuff. Cause then, there’s a line of cars waiting for your great space and making you feel like you need to hurry the hell up. Back to agony. It’s too much extra pressure I tell ya. I think I’m going to start parking in the west-40 lot. The exercise will do me good. Get me closer to skinny girl status so I can test the theory.
So my first score was chocolate — for strawberry dipping. Hello ecstasy! You know the stuff you dip and then it hardens. And lucky me, they were selling FOUR CONTAINERS of this hard chocolate, that then turns to liquid pleasure that then turns hard. Dang, they might have a marketing ploy there. Anyway, I love this stuff. YUM. God. Guess that isn’t going to help me be a skinny girl is it? Maybe this plan is flawed after all. Seriously need to park farther away to work off the chocolate
But to experience true joy, one must also taste sorrow. And no Costco trip is complete without some disappointment. There was no Arriba! Salsa. Oh Costco, why do you cycle products and create this agony? Why can’t you just make the Arriba! Salsa something you carry all the time? Offer samples so other’s can taste its yummy goodness. Arriba! is all veggies and we covet it in our household. It helps cut chocolate cravings. Oh please… please bring back this healthy snack. I feel so elated when I am able to score my husband’s favorite Salsa….
My sorrow was quickly dissipated when I rounded the corner to the next aisle. Costa Rican Roast Coffee samples! I love you Costco and all your little food demos! And the coffee ones don’t make me fat. Actually it made me very happy. Gave me a nice little pick me up midway through. So I could walk faster. Burn more calories. So I can look better in….
My new Lucky Jeans. Yipeee! I hope they feel as good as the ones I bought at the Lucky Retail Store a year ago for more then double the price. What a score. Finding something you love at more then half off makes you feel so warm and fuzzy! I love Costco! Parking? Salsa? Huge amounts of money spent? WHO CARES! I have new Lucky Jeans! Whoot! And what do I love about Lucky Brand Jeans? Well they fit me really well. And I take a smaller size in Lucky Jeans. Might not get me closer to skinny girl status, but they make me FEEL skinnier!! What can I say, perception is 99% of what makes up my reality.
So, Gentle Readers, the give and take in my love-hate relationship with Costco is intact. My infatuation is alive and well. And even though Costco still annoys the hell out of me sometimes, I find that I just can’t pull myself away from the allure of their game. I guess the good does out weigh the bad….

I’m just as bad - a real love/hate relationship with that store. And I always have sticker shock at the checkout. I’ll never learn.

Skinny girls should be charged more for membership!
