Today’s Stuff
Posted by Kym under General
I hate when white puffy stuff is floating in the air. I always get post nasal drip this time of year and it makes me miserable. How come we can put artificial hearts in people but there is no way to completely stop post nasal drip?
Today I am meeting with the principal to go over our new logos and other materials. I’m not expecting any issues, although the cost of printing could come up. I think my friend and I have that handled… but I’ll be glad when the meeting is over. I could use someone saying “wow… nice job”. It’s been a lot of work. And then tomorrow is the presentation to most of the board. And I’m pretty sure they are going to be nitpicky. Cause you know…that’s what people do when they are shown stuff and you offer them illusion that you really want their feedback. Hah.
We are in the midst of reviewing bids for central AC. We are looking at different brands of units and trying to decide how energy efficient we need. Of course the more energy efficient the unit is the more expensive it runs. And I suspect we’ll only use the AC for 2 months out of the year. So we are trying to educate ourselves. Anyone have any experience with Central AC? Want to give me some tips? Any brand preferences?
My mom is having more problems with her foot. I hate even talking about all the family drama on my blog. I think I like to just avoid it. I deal with it about an hour a day and I don’t want to waste my escape time talking about it. Anyway… she’s going to require more surgery. Since she is on suppressive antibodies for the Osteomyelitsis, they have to figure out how to do the surgery without stirring that up. At least I finally think she has good doctors. It was a challenge to even get her to recognize that the guy she “likes” doesn’t seem particularly clinically competent. His solution to everything was simply “lets cut it out!” Least her new surgeon is much more “collaborative” and consults with the infectious disease doctor about technique and treatment. Much more conservative.
I’m also trying to figure out our Florida plans for this summer. I think since the house is still open over 4th of July I’ll head down early with the kids. John can follow later since he doens’t have a lot of vacation time. (Note to self: See the freedom not working gives you!) Since we are taking a cruise to Mexico at the end of our family vacation, I’ll be heading out of a different airport so I’m figuring out should I just fly into that airport and drive? Or should I fly into Fort Myers and then out of a different airport?
I’ve not been eating healthy lately and I need to get back with it. I’ve been taking my vitamins, but I have not been getting in enough protein. It’s time to buckle down. I think I’m going to go to the doctor and get all my blood work drawn. That always motivates me. When I see the picture in clinical terms about how my body isn’t absorbing. It’s hard to remember that I am rearranged different. My stomach now is a normal size and I can eat a normal size meal. In fact, I can put away a lot of food. I don’t have weight gain as a consequence for my poor eating habits…. And when I am stressed, I really don’t take the time to listen to my body. And I feel sluggish. I need to listen. It’s time to get back into the program. Less caffeine. Less processed food. More meat. More fruits and veggies. More dairy. Back to healthy snack choices. Back into balance. And back to my water drinking. I’m supposed to be drinking 64 ozs a day… and I have been a complete slacker.
Yeah I keep thinking if I write about it, I will motivate me.

When we bought our new a/c unit, we ended up going with a no-name brand. All the “insides” are built at one of three different factories in the US and then the a/c unit factories themselves just slap on different outsides and noise reduction features.

I have post-nasal drip right now, too! I must have allergies that I don’t know about.
I know that I should drink more water but I just can’t force myself to. A pot of coffee? Simple! A glass of water? I gag the whole way.
We have a Rheem air conditioner. At our old house we had a different brand, I think. I don’t notice any difference between them. One interesting thing that the air conditioner installer guy told me a few years back was that most people buy too large of a unit. Some people buy a larger unit thinking that it will cool your house off faster and run less. Actually, you should buy a smaller unit. (By that I do not mean one that is too small for the square footage of your house. Just don’t go nuts and buy some huge thing.) It may run more often but that removes unnecessary humidity from the house. If the unit is too big, it doesn’t run long enough to remove moisture. (The kind of humidity that causes mold to grow in the walls.) Other than that, we live in Wisconsin and generally run our air conditioner from June through August. We just don’t like it humid and sticky in the house. Outside, that’s fine. But when we’ve been outside in the heat all day, it’s so nice to come inside and relax with a cup of coffee in the coolness.

Regarding central A/Cs, here is what I learned:
The kind with the mesh sides (fins) and the wire top with a fan visible up top underneath — are NOISY!! Watch where you put them. If they are anywhere near your backyard, you won’t be able to talk over them. You won’t be able to relax, etc.
We have a Bryant and while it runs fine, it’s the noisy kind. Trane makes one that is all covered in luevers (sp?) — and you don’t see the fan. It’s QUIET. It’s the kind I grew up with as a kid.
If I buy another one, I’ll buy one that is completely covered so you don’t see the fins. Junk also gets into the fan which can’t be good. It’s not a good design but a good deal cheaper.
Watch where you put it. If there is soil nearby, when it rains it gets all over it. I planted hostas near ours, and mulch around it to stop that so I don’t have to clean it all the time.
I recommend a cover for it in Winter. They help keep them in better condition. But watch out — if you turn on the A/C without removing them, you could burn your house down. I nearly did once. I smelled something burning and figured it out just in time!

How lucky are you to have a house in FLORIDA!!! Is it near the ocean????
