Three Wonderful Years

My Duodenal Switch Weight Loss anniversary is on June 5th. It’s an anniversary that I honestly celebrate more then my marriage anniversary. It’s the day that changed my life in the most dramatic and wonderful way. So I’m going to take this opportunity to gush a […]

The Two Fires

I’m having a dinner party tonight. And guess what I did? I burnt the chicken. To a crisp. How the hell does that happen? I mean I was IN the kitchen?! So I had to go out to the store and buy new […]

Weekend nothingness

On our way swimming … but just wanted to post a bit. Cause, you know, I don’t like to disappoint my regular readers. Even if there is nothing too thoughtful to write about, at least I can put a little of my life out there.
Last night’s dinner party went well. […]

Losing my Lunch

Tonight I’m going to our school district’s meeting to talk about Nutrition. Seems that our district thinks that 5 year olds can portion and make their own nutritional choices. They don’t see anything wrong with the fact that a 5 year old might only choose to eat pizza everyday. […]

10 random things in my head

1. It makes me angry that I can’t volunteer at some functions at my child’s school simply because I don’t have childcare for my youngest. I feel excluded simply because I have a younger child. Doesn’t seem fair.
2. It’s very cute how my 4 year old says “Dark Vader” no matter how many times […]

Mean Kids Suck

Emma is getting teased at school for her weight. It’s happened all year, but it’s gotten worse lately or Emma can no longer hanlde it. I sent the email below to the principal, teacher and counselor at school….
If you are a parent of a “normal weight kid” please take time […]

This, That and the Other

Well Emma had her surgery, and she’s now home resting comfortably. Poor kid does not handle anesthesia well at all. I’m feeling plum worn out, but I think it’s just the week of stress catching up with me. I know I’ll be fine after I get a good nights […]

The weekend

Last night we went to a wine and cheese party for our new neighbors. It was really nice. They are a couple who are in the midst of the adoption process (domestic) and I’m excited we’ll soon have more kids in the neighborhood. I feel so blessed to […]

Two tickets please…

Have you ever had a front seat to watching someone’s political life implode? It’s messy. And yet strangely - you can’t help watching it like some 2 bit rubber-necker. It’s like watching a car wreck in slow motion. You see all the little things they […]

I’m just a volunteer

As I have worked on the PTSA stuff, I got quite stressed out. I was trying to please everyone… and everyone had input. It really reminded me of the stuff I used to have to deal with in my project management jobs. Like my old job, where I […]

Summer’s Here!!!

Do you ever wonder what your kid was thinking? Today we went to a party at a beach and my son was wearing his bathing suit. Instead of taking his shoes off and going in the water.. he just goes in. Getting his only pair of shoes wet. […]

The Lessons of Chores

My first project for summer is to figure out how we are going to teach my children about chores. I will be very honest that I have been a bit of slacker in this department. Because really, let’s be honest… I am all about efficiency. And having […]

Vacation Disaster Preparedness

I was just reading something about how planning and anticipating the vacation is part of the fun and relaxation. They were extolling the virtues of stopping to smell the proverbial roses… enjoy the process of picking out clothes, finding the perfect vacation spot, planning your activities. Obviously, what I […]

It’s not over-rated

Dear God,
Remember when I asked you to give me more friends in my life? Yeah…. Well… I’d like to amend that request. I realize you are a God of Specifics, so I am going to be really specific now that I realize the error of my ways. […]

Should I write about?

So as I sit down to write this blog post I wonder exactly what is going to come out. I’ve been on an interesting trip the past few days. Soul searching. Or rather soul revealing. Tiring work, but I know I’m better for it. […]

Peace in Chaos

Yesterday folks asked me to talk about the “peace” I brought into my life. If you saw how upset I was last week, you’d really think my peace was extra amazing. (Sorry can’t blog the details) I think the overwhelming thing I keep focused on when I feel really […]

Funny or not funny?

Hmmm. Emma is down the street camping out in the backyard with a friend. I wonder if she would hate me forever if I went down there and scratched on her tent all bear-like….

The Neurotic Cost of the ToDo List

Let me tell you about one of my neurosis. I do not manage having stuff hanging over my head. My life is organized; I run a fairly tight ship. I like order, I like planning, and I like security. All these things give me energy.
There was […]

Giddy

Ok… ummmm. You won’t see this too often on my blog because well… I don’t get much to be giddy about these days. My life is predictable routine. I take my spurts of happiness where I can get them. Like the startled rush of joy I feel when […]

Another happy day…

Kids off at Camp again today. Yippee! Oh yeah. Oh yeah. (visual cue: doing the cabbage patch dance) Ok… really, I’m so happy for them. They just bubbled with excitement yesterday after a day of ice skating and swimming. Emma was all […]

Burning Question

We handle the big life questions here at exmundane.com!
How many outfits do you kids have?
Don’t you wonder sometimes where I come up with these burning questions?
I’m trying to pack and take all the ‘decent with no visible spots or tears” tee shirts and short sets. […]

She’s such a thinker…

Today we were looking at pictures of the cruise ship. Emma remarked the rooms sort of looked small… like on the Titanic. And then she burst into tears and said she wasn’t going.
Her father assured her there were no icebergs in the Gulf of Mexico.

Creating Moments

I love creating moments, which in turn create memories for my kids. I think in the mommy department I am pretty run of the mill. Average even. I yell at my kids, snuggle them when they let me, I tend to be strict, read to them, teach them how to […]
