Burning Question

How many outfits do you kids have?
Don’t you wonder sometimes where I come up with these burning questions?
I’m trying to pack and take all the ‘decent with no visible spots or tears” tee shirts and short sets. I don’t really buy as much summer clothes because honestly, in the Pacific NW, we only have about 10 weeks of summer – then we are back to pants and long sleeve tee shirts.
My kids are in camp this week… and I’m realizing that I can’t keep 10 outfits that look decent clean without them wearing them… We leave Saturday and they have camp tomorrow and Friday. That would be 12 outfits… and there isn’t twelve outfits for each kid…. Unless I send them to camp looking like street urchins. Perhaps I should break down and go spend another $60 on clothes for my kids to give them another two outfits each?
So I’m curious… how many summer outfits do you have for each kid? Help me determine what is reasonable!!!

My kids probably all average 6 each. A pair of jean shorts, khaki shorts (skorts for the girls), 4 or 5 t-shirts/tank tops, 3 outfits (the kind where the shirt matches the shorts in some way), and then a dressy outfit. Fall/winter clothes are about the same except the school age kids have 2 or 3 pairs of jeans. I’d rather do laundry more often then try to find storage (or shop) for more outfits.

A lot more than they need. I love Goodwill, especially when the kids’ stuff is on sale.

My kids have too many clothes, but I rationalize it because I mainly shop at consignment sales (big hobby of most of my friends) so I get great clothes for a few bucks. Plus, Jessie still gets a lot of hand-me-downs from her cousin. And, I buy big so they can wear them for two seasons. So, they each have probably a dozen pairs of shorts and maybe two dozen shirts. I do a lot of mix-and-match.
I’m also terrible about keeping up with the laundry, so it’s a good thing they have so many clothes …
But, I don’t keep them once they outgrow them — I donate them to our church thrift shop if they’re not too worn out.
Good luck packing!!! And have a great trip!!!

After doing laundry for over a week, the number feels like it’s approaching infinity. But I think there are about 6, 7 outfits the kids use constantly. 3 or 4 in Neve’s case, since she’s 8 and in that obsessive phase.

Man, are we the exception here. Last dpring/summer I purposely had Katie wear a different outfit everyday until we ran out. It took two months. No, I’m not joking, and no, her heavy winter clothes weren’t worn.
Of course, as with everything, there are a few caveats - most (90%+) of her clothing is from our ex-neighbors who has two girls that were 2 years and 4 years older then Katie. We were who they gave clothes to, and we should have her outfitted until she’s 7-8. I am also super-careful with laundry, Her stuff goes in two piles. Wash and stained. The stained clothing takes an entire day to clean (spray and wash, then wait, soaking, then wait, then two wash cycles.) They come out perfect, but I am very anal about it, And the final one - Katie is very wee. As in she’s 3.25 and wears 18 month old clothing.

My spoiled daughter has over 10 summer outfits, my oldest son has 5 summer outfits, and the baby has, ok, I don’t know how many he has.
But living in New mexico we have summer from May to September and today the high reached 107.
Sometimes I really miss living up in Silverdale!
