1. No one is laughing at my prepardness for Bird Flu now.
2. A generator is only good if you have gas to run it. We were too lazy to go wait in line and then figure out how to hook it up. We would have hooked it up today if our power (YIPEEE!) hadn’t come back on.
3. One should not be cheap before a storm and not go buy 10 gallons of gas for said generator. However our weather guys are not known for their accuracy, so when they said storm, we sort of rolled our eyes and decided we’d “make due”.
4. Generators were stolen in parts of Seattle… so we need to get a chain and lock. I couldn’t believe that. But it’s a good lesson.
5. I need to think more about entertainment when it comes to my preps. We were bored. Well actually… I was bored. The kids thought it was great.
6. My favorite prep item that I never thought I’d love so much: My French press coffee maker. However we had no coffee grinder. So…. after I got tired of watching my husband bang them with a mallet… I went to the store. There was no run on coffee. Apparently the rest of Seattle doens’t have a French Press Coffee Maker like me. :)
7. My second favorite prep item: an old land line telephone that doesn’t need electricity. Our phone lines worked, but not our digital phone. Cell phone service was spotty. I was so excited to find this in my prep items. I forgot all about it and was delighted when it worked!
8. Always charge your cell phone before a storm. Guess who didn’t? :)
9. The smartest thing I did the night before the storm was tell the kids to charge their DS’s.
10. My third favorite item was a crankable radio with a cell phone charger in it.

Overall, we really wanted for nothing besides ground coffee beans and more snacks. I see some tweaking opportunities for my prepardness plan, but overall I am quite pleased with our dry run.

My prayers are with the folks who are still without power.
